This summer Barrio Nuevo will be working with Cesar Rodriguez, a professional Latin mural artist, to create a series of community murals in Toronto.  The process of planning and co-creating the murals will be used as a vehicle to bridge gaps and perceived differences.  The creation of the murals constitute an important but rare instance of place-making for youth in our community.

The hope is that the project will encourage youth not only to foster a sense of collective responsibility for their community, but also to become empowered agents for the betterment of their society... so far, it seems to be working.

The first in the series is currently taking place in the Shoreham neighbourhood. We have partnered with Jane-Finch community groups and Toronto Community Housing to make this possible.

The second and third murals will take place at San Lorenzo at the beginning of August and at the Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples in mid-August.

The completed Barrio Nuevo murals will be a part of the Allende Arts Festival presented by LACAP September 11th.

These murals were produced with the support of the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council. Thank you to the Toronto community for making this possible.
